Welcome to the Center for Public Health Law Partnerships

Housed at the Institute for Bioethics, Health Policy and Law and funded with support from the Public Health Law Program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Center for Public Health Law Partnerships provides public health law education, training, and support to entities within national, state, and local public health systems, including judges, law enforcement personnel, prosecutors, public health lawyers, and public health officers.

The Center was founded in October 2003 as one of two CDC Collaborating Centers for Public Health Law. The centerpiece of the Center is a collaboration agreement between the Institute and Purdue University, which combines the Institute's expertise in public health law research with Purdue University's expertise in professional education of judicial, law enforcement, and public health officials. The University of Louisville's School of Public Health and Information Science provides essential public health science expertise to the Center.

The Center's goals include the following:

  • To foster partnerships between the public health practice community and the legal community;
  • To increase the public health law training capacity of professional legal organizations;
  • To disseminate education materials in public health law; and
  • To rely upon an expert Advisory Board to guide the development of collaborations, strategy, and educational materials.
