Amy
R. Schofield is an Assistant Professor
at the Institute for Bioethics, Health Policy and Law and the
Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of
Louisville School of Medicine. Prior to joining the Institute,
Professor Schofield was an associate in the Intellectual Property
Department of Hale and Dorr LLP in Boston, Massachusetts, where she
drafted and prosecuted patent applications and provided patent
litigation support. Professor Schofield has conducted extensive
research on state and national handgun regulations in conjunction
with the Center for Gun Policy at the Johns Hopkins School of Public
Health and provided research assistance for the municipal litigation
and NAACP's suit for injunctive relief against the handgun industry
while employed as a legal intern at the Educational Fund to End
Handgun Violence.
Professor Schofield received her B.A.
from Cornell University with a concentration in Human
Genetics and Development, her J.D.,
magna cum laude, from the
Georgetown University Law Center, and her Master of Public Health
from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.
She was a Greenwall Fellow in the Kennedy Institute of
Bioethics and is a member of the Delta Omega Public Health Honor
Society. Professor Schofield is a registered United States patent
attorney and a member of the Massachusetts bar.
